I’ve always thought it very interesting any time I come upon somebody who is very keen on discovering the will of God for their lives or for a specific decision. Should I buy this house? Should I marry this person? Should I take this job?
Of course, underneath all those questions is one very important assumption which seems to never be thoroughly evaluated. The unspoken assumption is: I am obedient to God’s will.
Otherwise, what’s the point of knowing it? I mean, are we looking for a command or a recommendation? And, if we’re not being obedient now to commands very clearly given in scripture concerning God’s will for our lives, why do we assume our future obedience concerning some other matter for which we seek a sign?
