The cashier at Costco was flaunting her foolishness. Large, colorful font adorned the front of her shirt spelling, “Just be a kind person”. And then in smaller print below it, “It’s really not that hard.”
Gee whiz, I thought. Someone needs to spread the good news! It turns out that all we really need to do is just be a kind person and the bonus is that it’s not even that hard? I’ve never wished more in my life that I had a time machine. If only I could go back and tell all those poor unenlightened souls that all they need to do is just be a kind person and it’s not even hard to do. To think of all the misery and tragedy and profound human suffering that could have been averted.
It made me want to be a counselor. I could do marriage counseling! Just think, a couple coming in after a few years or decades or bitterness and resentment and I could sprinkle a little “kind” fairy dust advice on their relationship and voila! Oh boy. Someone should get on twitter and herald the modern gospel.
