I like Proverbs 26:4-5.

Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest you be like him yourself. Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own eyes.

The problem is the fool. The fool is going to make you like him if you answer him according to his folly or the fool is going to end up foolishly thinking much of himself if you don’t answer him. The problem is the fool. The solution is discernment.

I can’t help but laugh when I read this verse because it makes me recall how I’ve come across people who actually use this as an example of a bible contradiction. Funny enough, a couple verses down, verse seven aptly describes such people:

Like a lame man’s legs, which hang useless, is a proverb in the mouth of fools
