If you need a sure-fire way to ruin a good prayer meeting, turn it into a prayer request meeting. Or as I unaffectionately call them, “share and care with prayer.” I’m sure the devil probably tracks the official statistics on this but I’m confident that on the list of things that have stolen precious prayer time away, prayer requests have to got to be pretty high up there.

There are plenty of other options available. Gather prayer requests before the meeting. Or simply pray your request and let others join in with you. Or spend a meeting or part of a meeting with no requests at all at try exercising your prayers-of-praise muscle. Or confession. Or thanksgiving. Or just asking God questions. Or silence.

But please don’t ruin the prayer meeting by turning it into a prayer request meeting.
