Did Jesus go to hell after he died? I actually don’t want to try to answer the question in this post. Instead, I’d like to offer ten questions that probably need to get answered first in order to be able to answer this question:
- What do you mean by “hell”?
- Was Jesus fully human, having a human soul?
- How do you understand 1 Peter 3:18-20?
- How do you understand 1 Peter 4:6?
- How do you understand Ephesians 4:8?
- How do you understand Luke 23:43?
- Do you think Philippians 2:10 has any relevance to the matter?
- Do you think Acts 2:27 means Jesus’ soul went to Hades?
- Do you think a compelling logical argument can be made that Jesus needed to suffer the same hell that we would have suffered?
- Do you understand “it is finished” to exclude the possibility that Jesus endured additional suffering?
