Ok, maybe not every kids movie but it sure seems like it more and more. Almost every time I take the time to sit down and watch a movie with my kids, it has the same basic idea. I don’t know if this intentional or not or how long it’s been going on, but it goes something like this.

The protagonist is living some kind of sheltered or limited life in some way. Something about his or her family or circumstances is keeping them from self-actualization. Eventually they break out into the wide world or into some fuller expression or realization of themselves. These movies come to mind:

  • Moana
  • The Croods
  • Frozen
  • Tangled
  • Coco
  • Luca

I don’t even think I watch very many movies but somehow whenever I do it always seems to be the same story.
